Wanted to put up a short note defending Atheism. I am not going to try and make arguments on why there is no God, there isn't, because there is no convincing a religious person of this. Other people can do a much better job at this than I can anyway. Atheism is also something you come at yourself with logic and simple, evidence. Instead, I want to address a point I saw being debated online that "Atheists is a mental illness." This is of course ridiculous since Atheists are not the one fighting and committing violence today in the name of no god. Other reasons, sure, but no organized movement to start killing theists.

It is cute how religious fundamentalists refuse to accept Atheists as human when it is a perfectly legitimate idea. Thin skin, I suppose it is not surprising since rejection of existence of god (or questioning) means your entire identity since childhood is shattered. Someone is calling everything you were brought up in a lie. Not everyone can handle this. I obviously consider it a sign of weak character. Atheists are easy to attack too. Religious wars continue. We continue to ignore real evil which plagues us in the name of Jihadism.

I see the examples of Mao and Stalin being thrown around as genocidal maniacs who targeted believers. Fair. Atheists aren't glorifying them and consider them evil as they should be. These people being evil does not betray the reality that Atheism is a perfectly logical idea and probably true. This example is a deflection. They killed because of their evil nature and ideologies. Evil is evil and free of ideology.
